I agree about the Lorelai/Emily episodes. The episodes you mention are some of my favorites too, especially the scene in the mall food court and the episode where Emily loses it after seeing that letter from Richard's mother.

OK, you know I have nothing to watch when I am looking at year old reviews! I think you are spot on here. I didn't think of it that way but ASP did royally screw up season 6.

There are too many things about this show I love but some of the best episodes for me are the ones where you see another side to the relationship between Lorelai and her parents. These moments don't happen very often but they pack a wallop, Emily Gilmore was a great character, acerbic,funny, judgmental, hauntingly emotional at times. Some of my favorite Emily Gilmore moments:

-When Lorelai goes to Emily after Emily found out from Sookie that Lorelai was engaged to Max and Lorelai goes to her mother to ask for help in picking out a wedding veil. Emily acting all snooty but then telling her to wear a tiara because that is what she did for her own wedding.

-The one where Emily meets Lorelai and Rory in the mall and goes on that manic shopping spree. That scene in the food court when Lorelai is on the phone and Emily compliments her on how she handled herself and Lorelai tells her that she learned that from Emily ("from the woman eating her hamburger with a knife and fork") and then Emily laments her own life and Lorelai builds her back up.

-I love the scene when Richard's mother dies and Emily, after finding a horrible letter cautioning Richard not to marry her the day before her wedding goes on a boozy bender (loved seeing her smoke). But during the reception after the funeral, very astutely demands the caterer to bring her husband some food and drink.

Thanks! I always felt that Chris' presence made sense in the earleir years, when Lorelai was jealous that he'd finally settled down with another woman. The history between them was something everyone could relate to. Revisiting that felt contrived.

I liked Dean, but I found him a bit boring and not suitable for Rory. Lorelai got way better boyfriends, I always kind of liked Max Medina!

Great recap! You're so right. I HATED the Christopher/Lorelai relationship. I felt like I got kicked in the face when they started that crap. It was so obvious Luke and her needed to stay together. Gah!

My favorite boyfriend was Dean. Sure I liked Jess, the complicated bad boy, but Dean was just so Dean.

Jess's return when he came back and basically made Rory realize she was being pathetic totally redeemed him for me. The first time around, I didn't like him very much - not that I found Dean any more interesting. I never loved any of Rory's boyfriend the way I loved Luke, but I grew to feel OK about Logan. I was happy with how the show left Rory though, single and focused on her career.

good call on season seven being damage control for season six. It's so easy just to lay blame on Amy Sherman-Palladino being gone as the reason for the show fizzling out, probably because we want to remember all the good seasons she wrote. (I had given up by season seven)

For the record - Jess was my favourite of Rory's boyfriends. I loved the episode where he came back and was all, "wtf? you dropped out of school?"

The Gilmore Girls is one of my all time favorite shows! I only got into it after it was already canceled but managed to catch up on every episode last Winter/Spring! ;)

I loved the characters, the plots and the lovely town.
